There are over 6,000 kinds of plants known to occur in California. Over 400 of some of the most beautiful are included iPhone field guide, with over 600 color photos. More photos and species will be included in future updates. These wildflower images have been selected from previously released Hartman Multimedia cd-roms (California Wildflowers, Sierra Nevada Wildflowers, Death Valley Wildflowers, Joshua Tree National Park Wildflowers, and Anza-Borrego Wildflowers); look for iPhone applications for these regions coming soon!

The user interface is designed to make use in the field as fast as possible. Quickly browse thumbnail images sorted by color, family, and photo type. Scroll through full-sized images by dragging.

Use the Index and Search functions to look up plants by scientific and common names (and synonyms). Look up plants by family, by flower color, by geographic area,, and by habitat type. Further information about geographic areas and habitat types are included.

There are over 100 wildflower species shown from each of the eight geographic areas, most with over 200. (Sierra Nevada - 322; Southwestern California - 253; Central Western California - 215 Northwestern California - 211; Desert Province - 146; Cascade Ranges - 176; Great Basin Province - 123; and Great Central Valley - 116).

Also see SMMPlants - Plants of the Santa Monica Mountains, which contains over 400 photos for more than 300 species in the Santa Monica Mountains. The narrower range makes it easier to identify species in that area.
